(षडेते is
double over डे–
not able to create it in the font) :)
This
explains how Mantra Sadhana or Mantrochhar should be done.
(1) It should
not be in a song with some tune created by a music composer. There are some shlok
which are done in Geet/Song but they are prescribed that way. The length and
soor of each mantra-part has its own meaning and actually the unprintable “dwani”
(sounds) between two ‘akshar” also have a meaning and importance.
(2) It
should be done very fast – it has its own pace and UCHCHA and enunciation and
pronunciation. Faster pace diminishes its impact on your nervous system and
surroundings JEEV (millions of Sa-jeev around you including bacteria and trees!)
:)
(3) DO
NOT MOVE your head or don’t stylize it!::) You should assume a stable position and
concentration—moving your head or hands etc disturbs the “sound” of God &
its impact! :) SWARAYANTRA should be working only!
(4) JUST
Reading written Mantra would not have direct impact – one should learn it from
a Guru’s Swar and sound. This could be difficult in person in today’s world but
you have authentic versions online. I will try to find such versions or work
with a dear (senior) friend from Nasik (Mr Nitin Dixit) to create authentic versions
which you could use for learning these most frequently used one. Disclaimer: Have
not met him from like 5 years or so – but each visit is as fresh as a good OP
NAYYAR Song in my mind.
(5) Meaning:
Knowing the meaning increases impact and no need to explain this. But I have
counter opinion. Meanings are multi-layer and Rupakatmak many times and SWAR –
THE SOUND is VERY imp!! So we should not lose sense of purpose and not lose
sleep over meaning too much. Many mantras and dwani might not have outright
meaning. (Brahma used Vedaas / sounds to “create” the charachar srushti”). But meaning
is imp as Vasudev and Vaasudev mean COMPLETELY two different persons! :) SO
MEANING should NOT stop you from reciting it as long as you follow the write rhythm,
right length.
(6) CLEAN
/ CLEAR voice – not halfhearted uchchar! Not Half throated and not shouting
also.
Thanks Milind ji, good effort but please ensure you get these Mantras from proper Sanskrit scholar with least influence of Hindi or Tamil on themselves. Hindi, as you know more of Arabic influence, where sloka becomes sloka, manthra becomes manthr, or even Rama becomes Ram. To begin with, Sanskrit nouns are Anantha, Hindi makes them Hulanthas.
ReplyDeleteSorry for typos, sloka to slok, Ajantha, not anantha
ReplyDeleteI very much like the way you have provided some very useful information about mantra sadhna. The overall detailing is really fascinating. I have found the post extremely useful, informative and effective. Thanks for sharing. By the way let me inform you that I recently came across a website: Astrology which I found very authentic since it did a very accurate numerological analysis. It’s quite amazing. I think you can also try it out at once.
